Fairies Exist

June 24th is Fairy Day!

I've always loved fairies, dragons, wizards, knights, unicorns, the whole medieval/fantasy package, so this holiday is right up my alley.  I just wish I could draw them.  I've found some amazing artwork on the internet of fairies and such.  Just Google it and see what I mean.  There are just so many different depictions of fairies, that it boggles the mind.  Good, bad, mischievous, holiday, daytime, nighttime, childlike, sexy, ugly, even anime... you name it, there's a fairy for it.

For those of you who also enjoy fairies and their stories, you should check out the information on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and the two teenage girls who supposedly had actually photographed fairies in their own yard.

Of course, there's Tinkerbell, and as I've said before, I'm a huge Disney fan, so I can't possibly not post a pic of our favorite pixie.

Donald Duck Day

It's Donald Duck Day!

As I've said before, I love Disney World and Donald, of course, is a big part of Disney.  Doing some research on Donald, in honor of his own personal holiday, I've come to find out that his debut appearance was on June 9th, 1934 in The Wise Little Hen and his middle name is Fauntleroy... Fauntleroy?!  Fauntleroy, if you look up the definition, is a noun that means an excessively polite and well dressed boy.  Wow, did they get that one wrong! Well, he may be well dressed with the snappy sailor suit, but polite?!  Not hardly... he has way too nasty of a temper.  Here's his debut via Youtube:

Donald's come a long way from his debut, however, yet he still takes a back seat to Mickey Mouse and that always gets him riled up.

I did come across his family tree, which is quite interesting.  I had no idea that he had a distant relative who married a goose over on the Coot family side.  What a scandal that must have been!

There's the Clan McDuck, The Duck Family, and Coot Kin.  Many never actually debuted anywhere, but as a back story to our well loved Donald, the family tree is quite fun to go through and see who you recognize and maybe even look some up.

Upsy Daisy Day

Today is Upsy Daisy Day... My son loves the show, In the Night Garden, so when I hear this, I think of one of the weirdest characters ever.  She totally creeps me out.  Thankfully, he likes the Pontipines more, but that's mostly because they're constantly making farting noises.  (he's all boy, go figure!) Personally, I like Maka Paka the best out of the show's characters, but that's neither here nor there...

But, despite the fact that she's my least favorite character, in honor of Upsy Daisy Day, I'll post her picture.  Even though I'm sure that's not what this day was intended for, but you'll be hard pressed to find much else other than some actual daises when searching on the internet.

On a slightly more disturbing note... as I was looking for the nice pic above, I typed in "holding a child in the air" (because upsy-daisy only give pics of the creepy character and a few daises) and as I was going through the pics, I came across this one:

It's a "hold up"... it's a "child"... it's a child performing a hold up... Sheesh!

Anyway, I love the pic of the mother and child, but I'm also partial to daises, so here's one of those too...

And didn't I say it's amazing what you find?  Well, when searching for a picture of a daisy, I found the Droste Daisy:

Go ahead... Google "Daisy" yourself... if you don't believe me.  Cool pic, though, huh?  

Of course, being a huge Disney fan, I certainly can't leave out Miss Daisy Duck, herself!

Today is also World Ocean Day and National Name Your Poison Day (which is interesting.)  Personally, I just love the ocean and those of you who know me are probably wondering why I didn't use that one as today's main theme... well, I thought the Upsy-Daisy one was more fun.  The ocean is beautiful and calming, but not generally funny.

National VCR Day

Wow, I had no idea that the VCR (remember those?) had once been thought of as "Dangerous Technology!"  It's amazing what you find when you surf around the internet.

I know I've already posted to my blog for the day, but I just couldn't resist this blast from the past!

Anyway..... Today is National VCR Day!  Break out the old VHS tapes and enjoy some oldies, but goodies... that is, if you still have any lying around and if you still have a VCR that actually works.  (don't tell anyone, but I do... I have a ton of VHS tapes, mostly Disney.  Shhhhh)

So, here it is. (I may even do this again... maybe on a regular basis... if I could actually write in my blog on a regular basis, that is!)

I absolutely love vacationing at Disney World in Florida.  But it's gotta be with the addition of staying at the Polynesian Resort, one of their Deluxe hotels.  Pricey?  Yes.  Worth it?  YES!  I hope to, one day, take my boy to Disney World and have him experience the wonderment that I did when I was little.  My first time was when I was 7.  Things have changed, of course, but it's still holds the magic for me and I hope it will for him too.

I know I didn't need to add anything to this post... just the picture was the idea, but I felt like telling the "why" as well.  That makes me happy too :o)  So there!
